NAARS: Needs & Assets Assessments and Referral Services
NAARS provides personalized settlement needs assessments and action planning support to help you adapt to life in Saskatchewan.
This program is offered in Saskatoon and Regina. There is no charge for services provided at IWS.
This program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
About the Program
- Your Needs and Assets Assessment will cover the following topics:
- Housing
- Safety and Security
- Transportation
- Life Skills
- Health (Physical and Mental health)
- Money and Finance
- Language
- Education
- Employment
- Your connections to the Community
- Following the assessment, you will receive a Personalized Settlement Action Plan that will help you achieve your immediate and long-term goals.
- You will be referred to one of our partner agencies that will support you through your journey, up until you achieve independence.
- Interpretation and childcare support are also available during your appointment.
Who Can Participate?
- 18 years of age or older
- Permanent Residents (Proof of Permanent Residence is required)
- Newcomers approved as eligible to receive IRCC funded programs
- Ukrainians who arrived via the CUAET program are eligible until March 31, 2025
Common Questions About NAARS
During your appointment, our Case Worker will ask you questions about your settlement needs and goals such as housing, employment, social connections, health, etc. Our team will provide you with a list of free programs and services that you are eligible to receive. There are many different programs and services for newcomers in our community.
- It is best to meet with our team immediately after arriving to Saskatoon or Regina.
- Please only get settlement advice from trained settlement professionals. Information from friends and neighbours is nice, but it is often wrong or outdated. Also, programs and services for newcomers change frequently.
- Please book your free appointment with us to receive the most accurate information.
- One of the following immigration documents to confirm your Permanent Resident status in Canada:
- Confirmation of PR (CoPR), otherwise called “Landing paper”
- PR Card
- Notice of Decision on your refugee claim (issued by the Refugee Board of Canada.)
- If you came to Canada with a CUAET visa, please have the Work Permit document with you
- You will meet with one of our team members in person or online over Zoom.
- The appointment will last 1 to 2 hours depending on your language ability and the complexity of your needs.
- You will be asked questions about your personal and family situation so that we can suggest the most appropriate resources for you and your family.
- After your appointment, your case worker will send you (by email) your very own personalized Settlement Action Plan which includes information on free programs and services you can access to help achieve your goals.
- Your case worker will also provide your information to an agency in your community who will contact you to follow up and answer any questions you may have about settlement in Saskatchewan and help with various settlement activities.
