Become a volunteer and make an impact on the lives of newcomer women and their families!
Volunteer with Us!
  • Volunteers must be able to commit to helping out for at least 3 consecutive months.
  • Volunteers who help out for at least 3 months or provide 30 hours of volunteer work receive a letter of volunteerism from IWS.
  • Volunteers must participate in an interview prior to taking part in any volunteer activities.
  • To become a volunteer, complete and submit the Volunteer Application Form below. You will be contacted within 10 days for an interview.
  • Volunteers must provide a valid and clear Criminal Record Check (CRC), including the Vulnerable sector. IWS will provide a Volunteer Letter to those who pass their interview to obtain the CRC, free of charge.
  • Lead our Drop-in EAL Program
  • This position requires preparing and instructing sessions which take place Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
  • Assist and providing support to our Drop-in EAL Program
  • This position requires providing assistance and individualized attention to students as needed during the sessions which take place Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
  • Meet one-on-one with clients to assist with English or Computer literacy skills
  • This position includes meeting with clients once a week for 1-1.5 hours
  • All tutoring sessions must take place in a public space during our regular office hours which are Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • IWS offers childminding for a variety of programs to increase accessibility to our clients
  • This position is responsible to provide active and safe supervision of children in our care (ages 18 months +).
  • Lead age-appropriate activities for children such as reading, games, and crafts.
  • Provide assistance at special events including set up, clean up, and other tasks as required.
  • Work as a community ambassador, representing IWS at our booth at events such as Folk Fest, etc.
  • Provide support to IWS program staff for our Children and Youth programs for tasks such as chaperone, session facilitator, room support, food prep, and kitchen aid, etc.
  • Lead group learning and skills development sessions for our Drop-In Programs which include ActiveGray (Beyond 55), Fit4Life and Just4Women.
  • This position includes leading sessions in one or more of the following categories:
    • Fitness
    • Yoga
    • Theme-based learning workshops
    • Arts and Crafts
    • Sewing/ Knitting
    • Cooking/ Baking
Teacher/Instructor for English as an Additional Language (EAL) Classes:
  • Lead our Drop-in EAL Program
